How to Pack Furniture for Storage
Protect sofas, tables, chairs and cabinets with the right covers, spacing and loading order.

Write down the largest items, anything fragile and what you may need to retrieve first. That small step makes the advice in this guide easier to apply.
Furniture stores well when it is clean, dry and protected without being sealed too tightly. A little preparation prevents scratches and makes move-out much easier.
Clean before you cover
Dust timber, vacuum upholstery and let every surface dry fully. Moisture trapped beneath plastic can cause odours or mark delicate finishes.
Disassemble only where it helps
Remove table legs, shelves and bed frames when it reduces strain or saves space. Place fixings in labelled bags and tape each bag securely to the matching item.
Use breathable protection
Moving blankets and cotton covers protect furniture while allowing air to circulate. Use stretch wrap only to hold blankets in place, not directly against timber or leather.
Keep weight off upholstery
Store sofas and mattresses upright only when the manufacturer allows it. Never place heavy boxes on cushions, woven seats or soft arms.
Leave a route through the unit
A narrow aisle makes it possible to check covers and retrieve one piece without unloading everything else.
