A Room-by-Room Moving Storage Plan
Organise a temporary unit so the essentials come out first and every box is easy to find.

Write down the largest items, anything fragile and what you may need to retrieve first. That small step makes the advice in this guide easier to apply.
A storage unit works best when it follows the way you will unpack. Pack by room, label more than one side and load in the reverse order of when you need each item.
Create a simple inventory
Number every box and keep a short list on your phone. Record the room, general contents and whether the box is fragile or needed early.
Load the least urgent rooms first
Garden equipment, decorative items and archived paperwork can sit at the back. Keep kitchen basics, bedding and children’s essentials closer to the entrance.
Build stable rows
Place heavy, evenly filled boxes at the bottom and lighter boxes above. Avoid very tall stacks and leave space around fragile furniture.
Mark an access aisle
A central or side aisle lets you reach several rows without moving the entire unit. Keep a small folding step and torch near the door.
Photograph the finished layout
One clear photograph saves time later and helps anyone sharing the unit understand where things belong.
