Preparing Seasonal Items for Storage
Store decorations, luggage, garden equipment and sports gear so each item is clean and ready for next season.

Write down the largest items, anything fragile and what you may need to retrieve first. That small step makes the advice in this guide easier to apply.
Seasonal storage works best as a rotation. Clean items as they leave the home, group them by use and keep the next season’s boxes closest to the door.
Never store damp equipment
Dry tents, outdoor cushions, boots and sports equipment fully. Moisture sealed into a box can create odours and damage nearby items.
Use clear categories
Group decorations, travel equipment, winter clothing and garden items separately. Label at least two sides so the description remains visible when stacked.
Protect delicate shapes
Use divided boxes for decorations and avoid compressing technical clothing. Store skis, boards and folded furniture in stable vertical positions where appropriate.
Remove batteries and fuel
Take batteries out of lights and equipment. Powered garden tools must be drained and prepared according to facility rules before storage.
Create a seasonal front row
Rearrange the first row as the year changes. A small inventory helps you bring home only what is needed and return it to the correct place.
