Moving furniture out of the work zone gives trades more room and reduces the risk of dust, paint or accidental damage. The best time to plan storage is before materials arrive.
Separate daily life from project storage
Decide what the household still needs each week. Pack everything else by room and keep a small essentials zone near the unit entrance.
Protect surfaces properly
Clean and dry furniture, use breathable covers and pad corners. Avoid placing plastic directly against timber or leather for long periods.
Allow for delays
Completion dates can move. Choose a flexible rental period and keep a few empty boxes available for items discovered later in the project.
Keep documents close
Warranties, plans and contractor paperwork should remain easy to reach. Store them together in a clearly labelled lidded box.
Plan the return room by room
Load finished-room furniture last so it can leave first. This keeps move-back day orderly and avoids reopening completed spaces unnecessarily.
