Student Storage Between Tenancies
A simple checklist for storing books, clothes, kitchen items and a bicycle over summer or a term abroad.

READING NOTE
Make a quick list before you start.
Write down the largest items, anything fragile and what you may need to retrieve first. That small step makes the advice in this guide easier to apply.
A compact storage unit can be simpler than taking every belonging home between tenancies. Pack only what is worth keeping and make collection day easy for your future self.
Start with a realistic list
Most students need space for boxes, bedding, kitchen equipment, books and perhaps a bicycle. A 15–25 sq ft unit is often enough when large furniture is not included.

Wash and dry everything
Clothes, bedding and kitchenware should be completely clean and dry before packing. Use sealed boxes rather than loose bags for better stacking.
Label for the next address
Mark each box with its contents and destination room. Keep keys, tenancy documents and chargers with you rather than inside the unit.
Sharing can reduce cost
Friends can share a larger unit, but agree who controls access and label ownership clearly. Only store items for people included in the rental agreement.
Check dates before travelling
Confirm access hours and the notice required to end the rental. Build in a few extra days around the new tenancy start date.
Still unsure what fits?
